Memories of Vietnam

I lived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for 2 years.
During my stay, I worked for Liti ,an adorable antique and clothing shop, owned by a Japanese lady. I recently contacted her to congratulate her pregnancy and to let her know my recent news.

Suddenly I felt nostalgic about Vietnam and started looking for some good photo images. Somehow I couldn't find the photos I liked. Where did they go??

以前、ベトナムに2年ほど住んでいました。
その間、Litiという日本人オーナーの素敵なアンティーク雑貨＆洋服のお店で働いていました。
久しぶりにオーナーに連絡を取り、妊娠のお祝いを伝えるとともに、自分の近況をお知らせしました。

Girraween National Park- Wild flower watching

Vest time to visit Girraween National Park is September when a lot of wildflowers bloom.
"Junction" walking track is highly recommended for wildflower lovers!
Last year I and my husband went there around the same time of the year and I was fascinated by these tiny wildflowers. I was able to see various kinds of wildflowers this year,too.

Girraween国立公園を訪れるベストシーズンはワイルドフラワーの咲く9月です。
特に"Junction"というウォーキングトラックがおすすめ。
去年もちょうど同じ時期にGirraween国立公園を旦那さんと訪れ、この小さくて儚げな野生の花達に魅了されました。今年も色々な種類の花を見ることができました。

Girraween National Park- The Pyramids

Last weekend, we camped at Girraween National Park with meet-up members.

The day we arrived, we walked "The Pyramids" track.

The weather was perfect for walking this track.

Walking on the very steep rocky surface is challenging if you scare of height, but the view is totally amazing! 

先週末は、家から4時間弱のところにあるGirraween国立公園でミートアップの人達とキャンプしました。

到着した日は、"The Pyramids"というウォーキングトラックを歩きました。

このトラックを歩くのに、絶好の天気。

かなり勾配のきつい岩肌を歩くので、高所恐怖症の人にはキツイと思いますが、絶対価値ありです！ 

Japanese book: Kyoto style

この本は私の京都好きを知った本の会の主催者のMさんが貸してくれたものです。

おもしろすぎるーー。

京都好きの人もそうでない人もぜひ読んでほしいなぁ。

京都の人がいかに他の県の人と違うかということがいろいろなエピソードを交えながら、読みやすく書かれています。

一般的に「冷たい」「いけず」「本音を言わない」と言われる京都の人ですが、その生き方を守ることで、流行や他人の意見に左右されず、自分らしくある生活を守っているんだということが分かります。そうであるからこそ、京都にはまだまだ伝統文化が残り、いつ訪れても季節感が感じられるのでしょう。

自分は京都人のようには絶対なれないけど、もっと自分を主体にした生き方をしてもいいのかなと思いました。

以下本より抜粋。これを読んだだけではピンと来ないかな？

 「自分が一番」の京都人は、他人の言動でいちいち傷つかない。まして他人を自分に従わせようなどと面倒なことも考えない。したがってくれるならそれはそれで都合いいけれど、そうじゃなければ「放っとこう」と考えている

気分転換は不満がたまったときに捌け口として必要になる。不本意に選びとらされた生活、お仕着せのライフスタイルなど、生活全般で不満がうっ積したときに気分転換が必要になる。逆にいえば、衣食住、そして社会生活を他社にコントロールされずに暮らしていればガス抜きとしての気分転換は必要ない。京都人は、他人にコントロールされにくい下地を血の中にもっている。

すでにあるものをできるだけ大切にし、捨てないで使い切ること。修繕を重ねながら改良すること。

ものの価値を決める。買う。自分なりに生計を管理する。人を評価する。そんな生活者として持つべき当然のプライドを、多くの日本人は企業や他人の思惑に委ねてきてしまった。ところが京都の人間は、どんな些細な決定も主体であることを露ほども手放す気がないのである。

何事にも主体的な京都人は、おそらく東京の人間より他者から愛される必要を感じていないのだろう。だから他人に惑わされにくく、逆に堂々と批判する。京都人は、ゆるがずに「自分が一番」なのだ。

自分の喜びのために周りの人間がいて、日々の生活がある。

J-Relief charity garage sale

Last Sunday was exactly half year since Great East Japan Earthquake happened.

One of my mixi friend who has been involved with J-Relief charity activites organaised a charity garage sale last Sunday with Taka san, who is representative of J-Relief and owner of Raku.

I donated some of my old Japanese books, then bought some Japanese novels and okura seeds.
I still have lots of books I haven't read but I am quite excited to get new books.

Also I bought Raku-cha Genmai tea. I tried it later and found it delicious.


先週の日曜日は、東日本大震災からちょうど半年です。
亡くなられた方々へご冥福をお祈りするとともに、被災された方へ心よりお見舞いを申し上げます。

J-Reliefのチャリティー活動をされているミクシーで知り合ったお友達が、J-Reliefの代表であるとともに、 Rakuの経営者であるTakaさんと一緒に、日曜日にチャリティーガレージセールをされました。

私は古い本を寄付し、あらたに日本の小説本とオクラの種を購入しました。
まだ読んでない本がたくさんあるけど、新しい本を手に入れるのはうれしい。

それから、Raku-chaの玄米茶も購入してみました。後でいれてみたら、とってもおいしかったです。

My week from last Saturday to this Saturday

I am sorry that I can't keep up with my blog.
Here are the things I did for the last one week.

Last Saturday:
Visited our friend new house (she has just moved to a new place), then went to see Brisbane Riverfire in New Farm where our friends live. They showed us a great spot for viewing the fireworks. We were able to see Story bridge and CBD buildings as a backdrop, the setting was so different from Japanese fireworks. It was very short and less quality, but at the same time entertaining like watching a show.

Sunday:
Suitcase Rummage (flea market) at Reddacliff Place.

Mon:
Our car was serviced, which ended up waiting for 4 hours and costing $700AUD (>_<)
At least I feel safer and easier to drive now( somehow our car didn't have much power before the service. Changing the battery makes difference?)

Thus:
Tea ceremony lesson in the morning. Picking up my husband from the airport, who went to a short business trip to NZ.

This Sat:
We had lunch with sister in laws at Bar Alto in Powerhouse museum. (The portion was soooo small, not so recommended). Anyway they came to Sunshine coast for a holiday from Christchurch and stopped by Brisbane for a day. It was good to catch up.

先週の土曜日：
最近引っ越したばかりの友達の家にお邪魔し、その後ニューファームに住む友達と一緒にRiverfireの花火を見に行きました。とってもいいスポットに案内してもらいました。ちょうどStory Bridgeとその背景に高層ビルが見える場所。日本の花火とは全く違う景色です。打ち上げ時間も20分と短いし、花火の質も良くないけど（花火の形がくずれすぎ）、ショーを見てるみたいに華やかです。

日曜日：
シティでSuitcase Rummageのフリマ

月曜日：
車検をしてもらう。2時間で終わるはずが4時間かかって（修理するとこがたくさんあったから）、結局700ドルの出費。痛っ。でも車が軽くなったし、運転してても安心になりました。バッテリー替えたから？それともタイヤをローテーションしたから？？

木曜日：
午前は茶道教室、夕方は旦那さんを迎えに空港まで（ニュージーランドへ一泊二日の出張）

今週の土曜日：
旦那さんの義理の姉夫婦とニューファームのパワーハウスミュージアムにあるBar Altoでランチ。メインサイズなのに量がかなり少なかったので、あんまりおすすめしません。ロケーションはいいけど。姉夫婦は、クライストチャーチからサンシャインコーストにホリデーで来て、ブリスベンに立ち寄ったのです。再来週は義理の母が来ます～。

Brighton Rock

This is the film we missed to see at a cinema. The film is based on the novel by Graham Greene, whose books my husband likes. It is stylish and entertaining gangster film. The beautiful cinematography makes me feel like visiting Brighton again sometime. Acting is good, too.

Chaplin (Starring Robert Downey Jr.)

After seeing this DVD, I felt I need to watch Chaplin films. The film is biographical film of life and times of Charlie Chaplin. It's very interesting to follow his stories from childhood to his later life. If you want to know about Chaplin, watch this film! It's better than I explain.

Italian for Beginners

I thought this would be lighthearted rommantic commedy, but it definetely wasn't. First 30min was very very depressing with bad quality pictures ( I think it is deliberate), then it got better, and became hopeful in the end. It's is worth watching if you like art films.

Lunch at Korean restaurant- Lee House Korean BBQ

Sometime I crave for Korean food.
I went to Lee House Korean BBQ in Sunnybank Hills with my friend couple of weeks ago .
We ordered bibimbap and beef spicy soup, which came with four side dishes.
Yum!

It was nice morning today.
I needed to take it easy today as I had Japan Town event at QUT last 2 days and I am selling my items at Suitcase Rummage this Sunday. Also I am going to see Brisbane Riverfire this Saturday.

The morning walk refreshes me. It's getting hotter though.
I brought my camera for my walk and took some photos.


今日は天気の良い朝でした。
水・木のQUTでのJapan Townイベントがあり、日曜日はSuitcase Rummageのフリマに出店するし、土曜日はRiverfireの花火を見に行くつもりでなんだか忙しいので、今日はのんびりすることにしました。

朝の散歩は気分がリフレッシュできます。だんだん暑くなってきてるけど。
今日はカメラを持っていったので、何枚か写真を撮りました。

Getting ready for Japan Town @ QUT

I have uploaded photos of some of my hand crafted items (these items are not on my Etsy shop yet), which I am going to sell at Japan Town event organised by  QUT Japan.

This is an event to introduce Japanese culture and also to raise money to help those affected by Japan earthquake and tsunami. The event features Japanese instrumental performances, a quize on Japan, origami lessons, games and Japanese food stalls.

I have been to many national parks around Brisbane and still new places to discover!

This Bare Rock track we walked last Sunday has spectacular viewing points and 2 types of vegetation to explore: rainforest and rocy dry bush. I enjoyed spotting beauty in nature: wilderness land, very mossy patches, unique shapes and textures of trees.

This is 12.4km walk, about 4-5hours return. It's very easy climb compared to most of Japanese mountains.

Definitely I love to try this walk again.

これまでにブリスベン周辺の色々な国立公園に行ってきたけど、まだこんないいとこがありました。

先週の日曜日に歩いたCunningham's Gap（ブリスベンから1時間半～2時間）のBare Rockというウォーキングトラックはダイナミックな景色を眺められるポイントが何か所かあり、雨林と岩肌がむき出しになったドライブッシュの両方が楽しめます。

今回のウォーキングもネイチャーウォッチングを楽しみました。広大な自然、苔むした一帯、ユニークな形や質感の木々などなど。

このコースは合計12.4キロ、 4-5時間のコースです。日本の登山に比べたら楽チン。またぜひ歩きたいコースです。

Surrealism film at GOMA- The Hour- Glass Sanatorium by Wojciech Has

As it was depressing weather yesterday, we decided to go to cinema.

We didn't find any films we wanted to see, we went to see Surrealism film at GOMA.

Did you know most of the surrealism films currently shown at GOMA are free of charge?

Anyhow, the Polish film we chose was very strange; most of the parts were beyond my understanding.

Still, I was attracted to surreal, dream-like settings and stories. My husband slept about 3/4 of the film though. What a shame.

昨日は一日中雨で憂鬱な天気だったので、映画を見に行くことにしました。

よく行くDendyやPalace Cinemaに見たい映画がなかったので、GOMAのSurrealism映画を見ることにしました。現在放映されているSurrealismのほとんどの映画は無料って知ってました？？

私達が選んだポーランドのSurrealism映画はかなり変な映画でした。ほとんどのシーンが理解不能。でも現実とかけ離れた、夢の中ようなセットと話に意外と引き込まれました。CG時代前の1973年の映画ってことを考えるとかなりの偉業だなと思います。

旦那さんは見はじめから30分後ぐらいからずーっと寝てました。いくら無料といえ、もったいない。案外おもしろかったのに。

My friend works for Consulate- General of Japan asked me to dress a model in kimono for photo-shooting by Courier Mail. I had just dressed her and didn't go to the photo shooting, so I was very excited to see this image. 

I am looking forward to seeing the tea ceremony performed by Yamada sensei (Urasenke teacher) on Sunday.

Japanese Cultural Dayのイベントがマウント・クーサで今週の日曜日に行われます。詳細はリンクをクリックしてください。

領事館で働く友達に、Courier Mailの撮影のためにモデルさんの着付けをするように頼まれました。撮影には付いていかなかったので、写真の出来上がりを見るのが楽しみでした。

当初、自分で着付けをしてモデルになるように頼まれたのですが、お断りして良かった。なぜなら、新聞の記事を見たら、モデルさんの顔がかなりのアップで載っていました。（上の写真ではないです）自分にはあのアップ無理だなぁ。それにしても、着物で歩く女性をこのアングルで撮影するっていうのは、オーストラリア人の感覚だなぁと思いました。日本の着物の雑誌だと大体歩いていても正面か斜め前からの撮影のものしか載っていないのでは。

イベント当日は、山田先生（裏千家）のお点前を見れるのを楽しみにしてます。

Artist choice- Marian Drew "Buoyancy"

Queensland Art Gallery is rather modest compared to Gallery of Modern Art, but I like it.
They change collection fairly regularly, most section of the museum is free of charge, there are unique water features, and they have a nice looking cafe and a good museum store.

This is a small exhibition, which QLD based artist Marian Drew curated a display from gallery collection.
The theme she chose is water. The title of this exhibiton is Buoyancy.

Nothing glamorous but interesting selection of art works.


Queensland Art GalleryはGallery of Modern Artに比べて目立たないけど、私は結構好きです。
コレクションは比較的頻繁に入れ替えられているし、ほとんどが無料で見れるし、水を使った景観や良さげなカフェ、気のきいたものが見つかるミュージアムショップなどがあります。

写真に撮ったのはクイーンズランドで活動するMarian Drewというアーティストがミュージアムのコレクションから作品を選んで展示してる小さな展覧会。
テーマは水で、展覧会のタイトルはBuoyancy （浮力）。

そこまで人目を惹く作品はないけど、なかなかおもしろいセレクションです。

だいたいつもふらっと立ち寄り、さーっとコレクションを見て（気に入ったものがあればじっくり）、創造力を刺激されてなんとなく満足した気分で帰ります。

My first experience

As I am a woman of curiosity, I couldn't say no to the invitation to a dance performance of my husband's gay colleague at Sportman hotel (kind of gay bar/ club).　Actually it was his last performance.

I didn't feel too comfortable being there, but I liked the dance performance.
I only saw the first one "Cats". Dancers dressed in cat costumes, dancing and singing along with the music.
Some of dancers were sexy as well as beautiful including my husband's colleague! (of course they are all men)


旦那さんの職場にはゲイの方が何人かいます。
私は好奇心が強いので、旦那さんの同僚がゲイ・クラブでパフォーマンスをするのでみんなで見に行こうというお誘いにノーということはできませんでした。（ちなみに今回が彼の最後のパフォーマンス）


なんだか居心地が悪かったのですが、ミュージカル風のダンス・パフォーマンスはおもしろかった。
一番初めの"CATS"だけ見ました。ダンサーはネコの衣装に身を包み、音楽に合わせて歌って、踊る。旦那さんの同僚も含めて、何人かはとってもセクシーかつきれいでした。（もちろん皆、男性です）
